In this book, Craig Ogilvie, qualified police dog instructor and experienced trainer and behaviourist, introduces us to his hugely successful Interactive Play Experience. Using the acronym INTERACTIVE, Craig provides us with 11 individual lessons that will greatly enrich and improve you and your dog's play sessions. He provides expert guidance on choosing the right toy, motivation, empowering your dog without losing control, play as a reward and much more. Whether you wish to use play as a part of training, or simply want to build and strengthen your relationship, this hugely informative guide will provide you with the key to becoming the centre of your dog's world.
I have LOVED this book. I have a rescue who gets easily startled or frightened or overwhelmed, and while she loves cuddling and loves wrestling, she's never figured out toys. I've noticed with tug, she gives up really easily, as if she's worried if she "wins" I'm going to be upset or something. I really wanted to be able to find other ways to play...and this book was the key! Just the first letter of the INTERACTIVE acronym saw immediate results - when I praised and engaged even the slightest toy interaction, that slowly grew into my dog understanding she had my full permission to play! (Of course she always did, but I just didn't know how to communicate that to her, apparently!) Watching her figure it out has been amazing. She gets zoomies, the light is back in her eyes, and I'm seeing a whole carefree puppy side to my cautious rescue dog that I've never seen before. Thank you Craig for making my rescue act like the young dog she really is! I'm so grateful to be part of her journey!
